At Lake Forest, it is the responsibility of the Elders to govern the church and oversee the spiritual welfare of the congregation. All Ruling Elders are nominated and confirmed by Ministry Partners after examination by the Elder Nominating Committee (ENC).
As prescribed in our church governance structure, the Elder Nominating Committee (ENC) is elected by Ministry Partners and is tasked with the job of soliciting Elder candidates and then discerning if God is calling these individuals to serve LFC at this time and in this capacity. The ENC, according to our process, is to be formed from a blend of three or more Ministry Partners and two active LFC Elders. Each year a general invitation is given to Ministry Partners asking for people interested in serving on the ENC. Simultaneously, the Elder Chairman begins praying about and asking Ministry Partners for their service.
The ENC began meeting in April and to date has met for over 20 hours during the last two months. We have spent literally hours in prayer, waiting and listening for God to speak to our hearts.
This year, 6 Elder candidates were nominated from the congregation. Of these, two withdrew their names due to time constraints. One other nominee withdrew their name citing they did not feel this was God’s call on their life at this time. The remaining three candidates were then asked to complete a written questionnaire covering aspects of their church and home life. All three candidates were then asked to also sit for an interview with the committee.
As a result of this process, the ENC is recommending two of the three candidates for Elder. As it happens, the two candidates being recommended by the ENC have served as Elders here at Lake Forest in years past.
Our belief is the Elder nominating process is God ordained and therefore His hand is upon it, shaping and forming both the committee and potential candidates to suit His will. It is abundantly clear that God is using LFC as a tool to change the world …if not our little slice of the Lake Norman area. In that spirit, we believe God has spoken about who he has ordained to lead LFC forward on His mission. It is also important to know that to a person, the ENC has peace about the process and are wholeheartedly recommending the candidates on the enclosed page.
