Emergency Women’s Shelter

A Short-term mission without leaving home!

Monday, October 27 - Monday, November 3

In partnership with Salvation Army, an LFC short term mission team will host 12 homeless women for 7 nights. During this time in the Charlotte area there is not enough capacity in the shelters for homeless women and children and Charlotte area churches are stepping up to help our homeless neighbors.

The team, as their weekly schedules allow, will provide the basics of bed, shower and meals, and transportation to/from Downtown Charlotte. If anyone has skills (manicurist, hair stylist, etc.) that you would like to share with our guests, please let us know.

For more information and/or to join the team, please contact Sandy Michel at missions@lakeforest.org, or cell- 704-491-9982 or MaryAnn Brumm, cell- 704-763-1237.

An organizational team meeting will be held Tuesday, October 21, 7pm at Lake Forest Church.

A Previous Emergency Women’s Shelter

(April 21 - April 28, 2008)

This week we hosted 11 homeless women from the Salvation Army and we were able to provide several activities, good meals, quality fellowship, and an overall blessed time.

The ladies came to the church on Monday evening and by the time they settled in friendships had already developed and I knew right away we were in for a good week. Monday evening was jammed packed with good movies that had us rolling and laughing in our chairs. Some of the ladies said they had not laughed that much in years.

Wednesday evening after another very good dinner the ladies were treated to a night at the Signature Style Salon where they all received new “dos”.

On Thursday evening we had devotions, singing, and praying with the lady’s and volunteers.

On Friday night they were treated to a night of fun that included movies, card games and some family fun with volunteers and their families.

Birkdale Cinemas provided passes to the movies on Saturday morning for all the ladies and Qdoba provided their lunch which all provided a fun day out. Saturday evening they were treated to a grilled steak dinner provided by volunteers.

Sunday morning they all attended service and each one was blessed by the children’s ministry that performed. Sunday evening Tijuana Flats hosted them as their guest for dinner.

As always the church came through by providing meals extra clothing and miscellaneous items that the ladies needed. We even had one of our volunteers work with the ladies making jewelry. During the entire week each lady commented on how much our church treated them like family and never looked or acted different toward them because of where they were in life. Each one of them said they felt loved and they appreciated Lake Forest very much.
