Ministry Description

InterVarsity exists to see students and faculty transformed, the university campus renewed, and to help develop world changers. We pursue our vision by building witnessing communities of men and women who are growing in love for God, his word, and his purposes in the world as they are mobilized to reach out as missionaries to their campuses and eventually the world as they go on to become leaders in industry, business, churches, governments, etc….

My Story

I am serving with InterVarsity (IV) because it was InterVarsity that God used to radically alter the trajectory of my entire life. Very inconvenient. After struggling through my high school years with an awkward mix of honest seeking after God, lots of bad choices, and the resulting bitterness, I came to college with a new resolve to recommit my ways to the Lord. He used the leadership, community, and experiences in InterVarsity Christian Fellowship at Central College to show me that living for myself was totally unsatisfying compared to living for him. I was now on the ‘missio dei’ but didn’t really know it. This internal sense of ‘call’ was fostered on a two-week trip to Mexico with IV just after my freshmen year, and reinforced when I studied abroad in Spain. It was then deepened and confirmed as I followed the Lord on mission trips to Thailand, Australia, India, Nepal, Hawaii, and Indonesia. Throughout these years God used my international experience and interaction with the lost to develop a life vision very similar to Lake Forests - and to Jesus’, I might add (Mark 2:17): to be used to bring the love, hope, and reality of a good God to those who have given up on religion but not on Jesus. That vision applies to a vast number of students on college campuses all across America. Ultimately, I am working to this end because I heed the words of Mark 9:37, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.“

Prayer Requests

Increased Intimacy with God and vision for the campus. The same for the students at Central. That God would draw Central students to himself through our efforts - especially the unlikely and deeply broken.
