Ministry Description
Excerpted from an update sent by Tamas in November 2007:
• Strategy Team: – We’ve been privileged at Church Resource Ministries -Barnabas Group to have won the trust of denominational church leaders in Hungary. Consequently, one of the opportunities that arose this past year was the possibility to begin working with a group whose goal is to build vision and determine strategy for one of the regions of the Hungarian Baptist Church. We recruited leaders from several strong, “alive” churches in this area to form this working group. We were able to begin assessing the situation of the region and think through how we can work together to strengthen the existing congregations, do evangelism, and plant new churches.
• Teaching/training opportunities – Over the past year, many times I received opportunities from the Lord to preach in churches, to give lectures at youth gatherings, and to teach at trainings for leaders. Among these, one special privilege for both the Barnabas Group and for me was the opportunity to serve at the first Hungarian Keswick conference and Missions Expo. In the evenings, Luis Palau provided the main message, while in the mornings a Hungarian spoke to the conferees. On one of these mornings, I was able to teach and I spoke about the power of the Gospel to bring change in every area of our lives, in our churches, and in society. After the main morning session, many types of seminars were offered, and my Barnabas Group teammates were able to teach on leadership.
• Mentoring network – This is one of the most exciting things I have the privilege to be a part of. The mission director of the Hungarian Baptist Church asked Barnabas Group to help build a mentoring network where experienced pastors and leaders support promising pastors and leaders from the younger generation. The goal is to help these young pastors to blossom in the calling they have received from God. Christian congregations all over Europe are in crisis primarily because the leadership is in crisis. One of the many reasons for this is that although the nurturing of leaders is happening between the walls of schools, both personal experience and the Word of God show that great leaders are nurtured by great leaders and not by schools (“As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.” Pro. 27:17). It is a great privilege to have the opportunity to help an entire denomination in training its mentors and to design and set up the mentoring system – as well as to give on-going help to these leaders in their ministry.
