Mission Mexico 2010
Two Trips to Choose From:
Saturday, June 12 - Saturday, June 19, 2010
Saturday, June 19 - Saturday, June 26, 2010
Destination & Partnership
Lake Forest Church will visit Piedras Negras, Mexico twice in 2010 and join Constructores Para Cristo to work side by side with two Mexican families as we construct their new homes. Piedras Negras is in the state of Coahuila, one of the 32 states in Mexico. It is located directly across the border from Eagle Pass, Texas, which is about 150 miles southwest of San Antonio.
Objectives
The Piedras Negras Missions Team will work to provide shelter for a Mexican family and communicate through bricks and concrete the real love of Jesus. Team members will encounter the poverty of a “border town,” grow closer to Christ by engaging in service, and experiencing authentic Christian community in a cross-cultural environment. This trip will be hard work, but the work will produce a deeper connection to Christ as we love and serve the “least of these.” Though it will be a construction trip the main objective will be personal spiritual growth.
Constructores Para Cristo seeks, in partnership with Mexican Christians, to provide basic housing, medical care, education and evangelism for poor, working Mexican families who often live in desperate conditions.
This will be an opportunity to meet the real physical needs through real physical action in the hot Mexican sun. Through bricks and mortar you will communicate the love of Christ to a family in great need.
Participants
This trip is designed for approximately 18 adult Ministry Partners and non-ministry partners who are attending LFC (all must be 13 and older.) Construction skills are not required, but each applicant should consider his/her ability to perform the physical labor required on this trip, i.e. lifting cinder blocks. People under 18 years of age are required to travel with a parent or guardian.
Travel
Traveling to Mexico requires a valid passport for entering and departing the country. U. S. citizens do not need a visa for a stay of one month or less. Team members who do not hold a valid passport are encouraged to apply for it as early as possible. Team members will travel together. All travel arrangements will be made by the team leader. Housing is provided in a motel in Mexico that is well-known to us.
Cost
The estimated cost of this trip is $1350. You will be required to pay one third of this cost - $450 - as a deposit expressing your commitment of time and resources to the trip.
From - Phillip Iler, Piedras Negras Team 2006-09
“Each of the past three summers, I have had the privilege of traveling to Piedras Negras, Mexico to embark on a life-changing journey.
The task at hand was simple: travel with a team of fellow short term missionaries to this desolate region and build a modest house from the ground up for a family in need. Reluctant at first, I later learned that I was experiencing something that few people ever have the honor of experiencing.
The fact that such a modest abode can change the life of a family so dramatically and instill such incredible joy into their hearts astounded me. Something as simple as having a permanent shelter means so much to this family, and this idea of value fascinates me.”
