Student Mission Jamaica 2008
Saturday, July 26 – Saturday, August 2
Destination & Partnership
Lake Forest High School Youth with previous mission trip experience will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a culture outside the country in Jamaica. The team will work construction projects, visit and work with the children at an orphanage, and visit with the elderly at an infirmary on the island. Seniors (those who have completed the 12th grade) will have the opportunity to arrive a few days early for a “What’s next?” mini-retreat on the beach of Montego Bay.
We will be partnering with the Bethel Christian Mission under the direction of missionaries Dean and Karen Dawson. The purpose of the center is to host short term mission teams to serve the people of Jamaica.
Objectives
High School Seniors – spend a few days exploring the exciting opportunities that lay ahead of you now that you have completed High School and how to keep God in the center of those opportunities. Everyone – Be the hands and feet of Christ in helping those in need on the island from those who need home improvements, to the children at the orphanage, to the elderly in the infirmity. Be amazed at the difference you can make in someone’s life.
Service
Under the backdrop of paradise – beautiful beaches, topical forests, the blue range mountains, there is deep poverty and those with great need. In our short time on the island we hope to make a difference to those in need through construction, visits, and sharing of our love.
Participants
This trip is designed for students who have completed the 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grade and have previous missionary experience.
Travel
Traveling to Jamaica requires a valid passport for entering and departing the country. U. S. citizens do not need a visa for a stay of one month or less. Team members who do not hold a valid passport are encouraged to apply for it as early as possible.
Cost
The amount to be raised per person is $500. You are strongly encouraged to not allow finances to be the main deciding factor. Sponsorships are available.
