Mission Mexico 2008

Saturday, August 2 - Saturday, August 9

Destination & Partnership

Lake Forest is adding a new mission trip to Reynosa, Mexico. This is a unique opportunity to serve people engulfed in hopelessness.

Our local partner church is the City of Refuge Church. It is a small church smack dab in the middle of a struggling community. The church sits directly across from the local garbage dump. On the opposite side is the red light district,(aka boys town).

This trip is also unique in that we will be not be going alone. We will be going with Hope Presbyterian Church in Memphis Tenn., where Mike Moses served as Associate Pastor before founding Lake Forest Church

Objectives & Service

We’ll stay in and minister from a church that sits between a garbage dump (where homeless children and families live and scavenge) and the red light district. We will minister to children in the dump via vacation bible school-type ministry, doing arts and crafts, teaching, games, hanging out etc.. We will also offer some medical care (according to the team’s capabilities). Fix up work will be performed on the church. The church has an athletic field, so we will host soccer events for the kids and adults in the dump.

Participants

This trip is designed for adult Ministry Partners and Non-ministry partners who are attending LFC. Also, children of team members are invited to come experience this opportunity as a family. Children will participate in various age-appropriate ministry opportunities and devotionals. As part of the application process, we will discuss with you the appropriateness of your child’s age for this trip. People under 18 years of age are strongly encouraged to travel with a parent.

Cost

The amount to be raised per person is expected to be $650. This is a great chance to show the love of Christ to those who have every reason to doubt it and to work with another church to achieve His goals.
Travel
Traveling to Mexico requires a valid passport for entering and departing the country. U. S. citizens do not need a visa for a stay of one month or less. Team members who do not hold a valid passport are encouraged to apply for it as early as possible. Team members will travel together. All travel arrangements will be made by the team leader.
