Starting Sunday, March 9, 2008
WHY?
- The first Sunday in January, we had 300 more souls at LFC than the same Sunday last year (and I thought we were about at physical capacity a year ago - guess not).
- We are pretty much at full capacity for two services - parking and children’s space even more than for adults.
- This is a year of readiness, preparation, and planning for our future - which means maximizing the space we already have and being good stewards of what we’ve already built, to serve as many people as possible before plunging ahead to building expansion, planting daughter churches, etc. We feel this is the best possible stewardship of everyone’s sacrificial giving and servinig over the past three years - maximize and leverage the building we already have to include more people if God brings them.
- Its worth all of us chaning our routine a bit in order for life change to keep happening - its reallly a small price to pay for even one changed life. There are lots more people in LKN who’ve ‘given up on church but haven’t given up on God,’ who need grace-centered Jesus community.
WHEN?
On Sunday, March 9, 2008, our three service times will be 8:45, 10:15, and 11:45 am. (The leadership team of LFC surveyed multiple churches around the country with 3 services. There is no perfect array out there - so this is what we chose, aware of its strengths and weaknesses).
WHAT ABOUT YOU?
- It will require many of you who are new at LFC to step into Sunday morning weekly serving. In Children’s ministry, greeting, coffee, or parking. I will be asking you to do this soon - so please pray about it and get ready.
- It will require everyone to shift their current worship time. I will be asking as many of you as possible to choose the first or third service for worship, and to serve in ministry during another service.
- We will announce very soon what Children’s and Youth events will be held at each service - stay tuned!
- Living together in a large church requires Jesus followers who are growing in trust of overall leadership decisions, tolerance of a high pace of change, and passionate servanthood to facilitate others’ worship and discipleship experiences. In the end, its just one more step of the Lord shaping each of us willing souls more into the image/character of Jesus, our master.
- Mitch White, our Pastor of Discipleship, preached on ‘Life in a Crowded House’ last year - it was a true God-moment for LFC to envision what it means to grow spiritually and minister to others in a large, growing church. I recommend re-listening to that sermon highly!
